Summary

Responsible for overall quality and quality management of processing procured through outside vendors. Will be responsible for maintaining the annual Vendor Management Program, will assist with quality issue resolution in tandem with field metallurgists and plant quality personnel. Responsible for identifying and implementing processes and procedures to reduce the occurrence of quality-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of the Outside Processing Vendor Management Program—monthly and quarterly

  • Scrap review—daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly

  • New business startup champion: item review, trials, packaging verification, onsite visits, liaison to WSCS Supply Chain team—as needed

  • Quality issue resolution – communication with vendors/customers, containment, root cause, corrective action

  • Vendor audits for non-ISO or TS suppliers

  • Maintaining ISO certification documentation on the WIRE // Single point for internal ISO audit reviews

  • Continuous improvement initiatives as needed

  • Maintain lab schedules

Desired Experience

  • Strong technical knowledge of the steel market: vendor capability, metallurgical basics, common quality issues

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Excellent communication skills: email, phone, personal

  • Leading system skills: Oracle, Microsoft studio

  • Ability to develop strong internal and external working relationships

  • Advanced root cause problem solving

  • Practicing leadership skills

  • Will require 10% travel

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum 2 year of experience in Outside Processing or Quality preferred

  • Plant training & prefer candidate who has completed the Worthington Steel metallurgical program
