GENERAL SUMMARY AND SCOPE
Performs chemical microscopic and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment for diseases.
Receives or obtains specimens for laboratory analysis.

ESSENTIAL TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs laboratory tests and procedures to provide the physician with data to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
Makes sure that worklists are released and results are appropriate for all age groups serviced before posted to the patient record.
Performs venipuncture as needed with competency for all age groups serviced.
Collects, tests, and stores blood. Maintains records of blood donations or transfusions.
Performs blood bank procedures.
Performs tests on blood and body fluids tests and studies morphology of constituents of blood and body fluids to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Performs blood tests to monitor a patient’s coagulation status and provides data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Cultivates, isolates, and assists in identifying bacterial and other microorganisms present in body fluids, exudates, skin scraping, or autopsy and surgical specimens.
Performs various bacteriological, mycological, virological, and parasitological tests to provide data on cause and progress of disease.
Performs routine serological tests on body fluids and materials, such as blood, exudates, scrapings, and spinal fluids to ascertain pathogenic qualities of specimens and test them for specific diseases.
Performs chemical tests on body fluids and exudates from patients to provide information for diagnosing and combating diseases.
Centrifuges urine and examines resultant sediments under a microscope to detect presence of various types of blood cells and other microscopic findings.
Performs chemical tests on blood, body fluids and exudates from patients to provide information for diagnosing and combating diseases.
OTHER TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates in department performance improvement activities as assigned and attends/completes required training.
Demonstrates service excellence and ACE.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Associates Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology and MLT(HHS) or MLT(AMT) or MLT(ASCP) certification, and previous hospital laboratory experience desired.
Bachelor’s Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology and certification as MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT) or MT (HHS) or specialty certification.
Previous hospital laboratory experience desired.
CPR/BLS certification preferred.
Ability to be mobile.
Ability to exhibit dexterity and to differentiate colors.
Ability to read and write small letters and numbers.
Extreme attention to detail required.
Ability to work in a stressful environment; ability to handle multiple priorities, and concentrate and communicate effectively in both oral and written form with management, patients, and co-workers.
Basic computer literacy.
Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.
Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Medical Center emergency codes.
Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment.
Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.
Successful completion of a ninety (90) day probationary period.
